Car doesn't start. Here are the symptoms. My e90 2006 doesn't hard start. When I press the clutch/brakes and hit start I don't hear anything from the engine but a whirling noise from the rear. My suspicions are it could be a faulty fuel pump. Also my brakes are hard to press down so I tried to put the car into gear but still no ignition. The voltage should be between 13.5 and 14.8 volts with the engine running. Switch on the accessories in your 3 Series, for example, headlights, AC fan at full speed, and interior lights. The voltage should remain around 14 volts. It can get corroded too. You'll have to peel back the rear of the fender liner and pull the battery to get a good look at both sides.
